Jack Martin, who most recently served as the Executive Secretary for the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers Club and was a former president of that organization, passed away May 11 at age 88 in Pittsboro, Ind. Jack actually served as USAC's Publicity Director for a short time in the 1970s and spent many years involved with the sport of auto racing as an employee at D-A Lubricant, Firestone and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The USAC Indiana Midget Championship kicks off its inaugural season this Friday night, May 13, in the “Bob Newton Classic” at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway; an event that also features the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars at the 3/8-mile dirt oval. The event takes place just one year after USAC made its first ever visit to the track after its surface was converted to dirt.
