Driver Profile

Background: As a third generation driver, Derek Roberts has racing
in his blood. Derek began his career 5 years ago but has been involved
in the racing world since he was born. While growing up he watched his
dad race in the open wheel ranks but has also been a crew member for
many teams in all different ranks of motorsports, most notably being a
tire specialist for NASCAR driver Kevin Hamlin during his career in the
local stock car ranks. At the age of 25, Derek jumped behind the wheel
of a mini sprint car and found success immediately. He earned Rookie
of the Year honors that year at Deming Speedway and has never looked
back. During the racing season you will see this talented driver taking
on the dirt ovals across the Pacific Northwest but he has also driven
Midgets on the pavement for different owners. Outside of racing Derek
makes his living as a full time Firefighter in Snohomish County. He is
also a family man and loves spending time with his wife Katie and their 7 year old son Jayden and new baby girl Madison.

Accomplishments:
2007: Deming Speedway 250 class “Rookie of the Year”, 8th in points.
2008: Deming Speedway “Most Improved Driver” award, 6th in points.
2009: Deming Speedway “Rookie of the Year” in Deming’s elite 1200 division.
2010: Voted “Most Improved Driver” by fellow drivers in the 1200 division at Deming Speedway.
Finished 7th in his first ever pavement race with the WMRA after starting 13th.
2011: Skagit Speedway 360 Sportsman Sprint points Champion, “Rookie of the year” honors,
3 Main event wins, 5 Heat race wins, 2 fast times (in as many attempts), Never finished out of the
top 5 all season, Completed every lap of every race entered.
2012: 3rd in Sportsman 360 points, 2 main event wins, 4 heat race wins, 1 quick time,
Second at the Sportsman Sprint Showdown.
2013: 360 Division Rookie of the Year and 2nd in points.
