About Gary
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, raised in Bosque Farms, New Mexico. Attended and Graduated from Los Lunas High School in Los Lunas, New Mexico before joining the United States Marine Corps. Served as a Motor-T mechanic, then was sent to 3522 school where I became a Intermediate Motor T Mechanic and was trained in rebuild. Following Active Duty I temporarily worked at a water well drilling company as a mechanic. I was then hired at Wagner Caterpillar where I worked in the component shop as engine rebuild technician, and later shop lead. During this time I bought my home in Belen, New Mexico and built the race shop and race team. I then changed career fields where I became a fleet manager at a non profit company that cared for people with developmental disabilities. Then I became fleet and facilities maintenance manager at a regional transit agency before transitioning into Municipal Transit Bus Sales for the largest Bus Delership in America, where I sale Transit Buses to municipalities and non profits in the state of New Mexico. In 2019 our family was rocked when we lost almost everything we owned from a wildfire caused by someone who did not properly extinguish the ashes from their fireplace before throwing them outside. We lost our home, raceshop, racecars, trailers, hauler, camper trailer, and a total of nine cars. After the fire we did find good luck when we won two sprint cars in two separate raffles and by the end of 2019 I had made five starts in a 360 Wing Sprint Car. With covid and surgery to repair six hernias I only made one start in an exhibition race.
Career Highlights
Started in 2003 in Hobby stocks on dirt, 2004 went to asphalt prior to shipping off to the Marines. 2008 started racing dirt again in Hobby Stocks and continued to race Hobby/Street Stocks until 2012 where I transitioned into X-mods and ran those until 2015 where we decided to sell the modified and by a micro sprint and raced it or my wife's cruiser (two seat dirt stock car) off and on until 2018 when I tried to race non wing sprint cars until we lost the car in a wild fire in 2019. Latter in 2019 we won two sprint cars in two separate raffles and I started racing wing sprint cars in late 2019.
