Inside Line Promotions – FLANDREAU, S.D. (Dec. 6, 2021) – Elliot Amdahl made the best of a challenging racing season brought about by a mechanical problem that forced major changes in his racing schedule.

Amdahl’s primary focus this year was to compete for the 410ci sprint car Rookie of the Year Award at Huset’s Speedway until mechanical woes kept him from 410 competition from May until September.

“I thought our season went pretty well considering the big steps we took moving up to 410s and also running the full MSTS 360 schedule,” he said. “I was really happy with the way our season began with the 410. I felt comfortable right away and was pleased with our overall performance in our first few races.

“But the biggest disappointment of the year was obviously missing most of the 410 season due to a part issue with our engine. The engine broke our fourth night out and we didn’t get it back until the final race of the year. We did still have our 305 then and were able to race with that class at Huset’s, so we at least were able to get some laps in.”

While sidelined from 410 competition, Amdahl piloted Steve Ziebarth’s sprint car to a fourth-place finish in points with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series, which visited tracks in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska.

“Not being able to race the 410 made me even more grateful for the opportunity to drive Steve’s car,” Amdahl said. “I was pretty happy to finish fourth in points with the MSTS, even though we missed a race. I felt we were generally a top-seven car at about every track we raced at this year.”

Amdahl was also proud of the strides the team made at the 360 Knoxville Nationals this year.

“We generally only race at Knoxville during Nationals, so we don’t have many laps there,” he said. “But I was satisfied with our performance there this year. I felt much more comfortable there than in the past and I think we showed a lot of improvement.”

Amdahl is looking forward to focusing on his 410 program next year.

“I sold my 305 engine and plan to sell my 360,” he said. “I’m hoping to have two complete 410 cars ready for next year. I’m also expecting to race a limited 360 schedule.”

While the 2021 season didn’t go as scripted, Amdahl is grateful for the understanding of his sponsors.

“I especially want to thank all of my sponsors for sticking with me this year,” he said. “This is the toughest season we’ve had so far, with moving up in classes and missing a lot of races. I’m grateful for their understanding. And I’d like to give a big thanks to my crew. I certainly couldn’t do this without the help and support of Steve, Russ, my dad and my wife.”
