Tommy Kunsman Jr of Bethlehem, PA ended up 10th in series points in his rookie campaign during the 2021 Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series, Presented by Capitol Renegade season. The veteran open wheel driver, collecting championships in 270cc and 600cc micro sprints, along with being a two time winner with the former USAC Eastern Midgets, and current ARDC Midgets, would look to do more of the same during the 2021 season.
Kunsman and team came out of the gate strong racking up multiple top five and top ten finishes early on in the season before the team began to shift their focus on to a few different racing endeavors toward the summer months and the back half of the ’21 series trail.
Kunsman’s best run of the season came at the Big Diamond Speedway in July, where Kunsman lead laps early on in the feature event, before relinquishing the race lead to Briggs Danner. Danner later suffered a flat tire aboard the Gallagher 5G entry, with handed the race lead back to Kunsman. Kunsman wound up second in that feature event to Alex Bright who passed Kunsman late for the race win.
The team ended the season making fourteen starts with the series of the twenty-three events contested in 2021. Of the fourteen starts, Kunsman finished in the top ten twelve times, and the top five seven times, with his best finish of the season being a runner up at Big Diamond.
While we are not sure of the plans for Kunsman and team for the 2022 season, the team showed an abundance of speed throughout their starts in 2021, making Kunsman a driver who could contend for victories, and another shot at a top ten run in points in 2022.
