Inside Line Promotions – JONESTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2021) – Joey Amantea scored a 12th- place finish last weekend during the 32nd annual Linda's Speedway National Open.

"The car was better than the results show, but overall it was a fun weekend," he said. "We fought really hard for that 12th-place finish, so we can't hang our heads too much.”

Amantea kicked off the weekend at Linda’s Speedway on Friday when he began the night by timing in 31st quickest out of 50-plus drivers in qualifying. He then lined up sixth in a heat race and ran as high as third before falling to fourth at the finish. The result was good enough to lock him into Saturday night's feature.

"We were really fast in hot laps, but I made a driver mistake in time trials and that set us back a little bit," he said. "We had our work cut out for us in the heat race and after a real fun battle we were able to secure a spot to lock in the A Main on Saturday."

Amantea lined up 21st for the feature event Saturday night. He was running inside the top 15 within the first five laps of the race when he made contact with two other cars and got turned around.

As a result of the accident, Amantea sustained a broken w-link, a bent shock and a wobbly rear wheel. However, he tagged the rear of the field with hopes of finishing the race. Amantea persevered throughout the remaining 35 laps of the race to finish 12th during his final micro sprint start of the 2021 season.

"I honestly don't know how we kept going, but we gave it our best shot and I was determined to finish," he said. "The car was trashed, but we managed a 12th-place finish at the end. If not for the accident, I think we had a top-five car. But that's how racing goes and it was a crazy way to finish out the year in the micro."

Amantea will take the next couple weeks off from competing before returning Nov. 5-6 for a two-race weekend at Bridgeport Speedway in Bridgeport, N.J., during the High Banks Classic. He’ll partake in his final Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars event of the season during the opener before putting a wing on the car the following night to race with the United Racing Club 360 sprint cars.

"I really don't know what to expect as we have not done a ton a winged racing this season," he said. "But we've got a lot of friends coming to try to lend us a hand and hopefully we can keep the car clean and finish out the year well. I'm hoping to get a top five in the wingless car, but overall I want to finish out the year strong and then we'll turn our attention to 2022."
