Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Oct. 8, 2021) – Trey Starks wrapped his season up in style by winning the final sprint car event of the year in the Northwest last Saturday.
Starks led the distance of the 30-lap feature to garner his second victory of the season at Grays Harbor Raceway and his third overall.
“We had a really good night,” he said. “It’s a great way to end the season. That’s the best I’ve felt at Elma on a track like that in a long time and maybe ever.”
The night began with Starks setting quick time in qualifying out of the 16 drivers. He then overcame an early incident in a heat race to rally from the back of the pack to a runner-up result.
“The night went well all the way through,” he said. “We were fast in qualifying and went quick time. We got tangled up on the start of the heat race and had to restart at the back, but we got back to second.”
Starks drew the zero for the feature inversion, which lined him up on the pole for the main event. He capitalized on the track position and was efficient on the tricky track, lapping up to the top five en route to the impressive triumph.
“The track was pretty hooked up,” he said. “The biggest part was it was pretty rough. Even though it was fast it was tough to run. You had to find the right spot on the track to not upset the car.
“We got the lead and I ran as hard as I could. I think we lapped a decent amount of cars. Our car was good all night and knowing that the car was good gave me the confidence to drive it really hard every lap. It paid off to end the season with a win.”
