Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Oct. 5, 2021) – Derek Hagar is hungry for another Flip Flop 50 victory this weekend.
Hagar will invade Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., during the USCS Series’ Flip Flop 50 this Friday and Saturday. He’s a multiple-time winner during the event, which features two main events with the second race being completely inverted from the results of the first A Main.
“It’d take a lot of luck to win both,” he said. “I don’t think anyone has done it. Obviously we’d need the race track to be slick enough where you could come from the back to win. We’ve won the first feature several times. I think last year was the first time we’ve won the second feature. We didn’t start in the back, but came from the fifth row.”
Hagar hustled from 16th to sixth in the opening feature before rallying from ninth to win the second main event last year. His best Flip Flop 50 run overall came in 2017 when Hagar captured the first A Main before charging from 22nd to fourth in the second feature.
“I’d be happy with winning one and running well in the other,” he said. “We seem to shine there when the track slicks off and you can race on it. I’ve said it in the past, anybody is fast when the track is heavy. It takes finesse and a driver to be able to drive on Riverside when it’s slick. It’s a different kind of slick. You have to be smooth with it. I think that’s when we shine the best there. Being a two-day show with as many cars that will be there, I’m certain it will be slick come Saturday night.”
Hagar was most recently victorious at the track on May 1.
