Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 21, 2021) – Jack Dover is in position for a shot at the track championship at Huset’s Speedway heading into Championship Weekend.

Dover and car owners Rick and Chris Bowers sit third in the championship standings – only 36 points out of the lead – entering a two-day Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association event this Saturday and Sunday at the oval in Brandon, S.D.

“I feel good,” Dover said. “We’ve been really consistent all year and every time we go there we get better. I feel confident we can compete for first or second in the standings. It’d be cool to win it, but with Justin Henderson being up there and Carson McCarl second it’s going to be hard. We’ll just do our best and see how it plays out.”

This is the first year since 2007 that Dover has raced 410ci sprint cars regularly, but that hasn’t slowed him down. He scored his first career 410 win at the track during the most recent race and his seven top fives is tied for the third most in the division. Dover also has 11 top 10s – tied for the second most – and his average feature finish in weekly 410 races at Huset’s Speedway is 5.46.

Dover is coming off a three-day weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour as he tackled the 11th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway.

Unfortunately, the event got off to a rough start last Thursday when a competitor ran into Dover midway through a heat race. The incident resulted in a crash that damaged his race car and Dover was sidelined for the remainder of the night.

“It broke the frame so we got the spare down,” he said. “The car we pulled down is the one I ended last year with and ran the year before. I’ve always liked the way it reacted and felt comfortable with it. It sucks we wrecked a car, but we’re back in a car I know works good.”

That showed on Friday as Dover advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race and from fourth to second place in a qualifier. That ranked him sixth out of the 60-plus drivers and locked him into the sixth starting spot in the A Main.

“We fell back and went forward, then fell back and went forward,” he said. “The track was really slick. I tried to tighten the car up as much as I ever had. I thought maybe we’d be too tight and we weren’t tight enough. I just pulled the wing back and was trying all different sorts of lines. I finally found one that was the best and we stuck there. I was happy with our outcome.”

Dover’s fourth-place result was his 25th top five of the season.

The event concluded on Saturday with Dover winning a Last Chance Qualifier to transfer into the 10th starting position in the main event.

“I felt like we had a shot at being a top-five car,” he said. “As soon as I got out there and did the warm-up lap, I knew right then we weren’t going to be very good. I had the car too tight and then we had a shock go bad. We just kind of rode around there and tried to stay out of trouble. We did a couple of changes during a red and it helped a little, but with that shock being bad it really hurt us. I’d go into the corner and it’d jump on the right front. On that track it’s something you don’t want to have happen.”

Dover was credited with a 16th-place finish.
