Inside Line Promotions – WINCHESTER, Va. (Sept. 15, 2021) – Joey Amantea produced a seventh-place result Saturday night with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars at Winchester Speedway.

"It was a decent night for us and at times we had a really good race car," he said. "It’s getting to the point in the season where we are running out of chances to run well so we're happy with a top 10."

Amantea kicked off his third career visit to the track by advancing four positions in a heat race to finish fourth. He qualified for the feature redraw and garnered the third starting spot for the A Main.

Unfortunately, Amantea struggled with steering woes throughout the duration of the feature and fell to seventh. The top-10 run was the ninth of the season for Amantea with the series.

"We were really good in the heat race and with a couple more laps we were gaining on third there," he said. "The motor was lugging down a bit early and the steering wheel was kind of locking up, too. We were not able to capitalize on a good starting spot, but still came away with a solid top 10."

Amantea currently ranks eighth in the championship standings and only trails fifth place by 90 markers with five events remaining on the 2021 series schedule.

"This season has not met my expectations by any means, but we seem to be kind of gaining on things here late," he said. "We're moving up in the points and we’re just going to try to get more consistent and start clicking off good runs each time out."

Next up for Amantea will be a micro sprint race at Shellhammer’s Speedway in Shoemakersville, Pa., on Wednesday followed by a trip to Linda's Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., on Friday for another night of wingless micro sprint competition.

"We've really had a tough go of it in the micro this season so we're really trying to get that program going again in the right direction," he said. "This week is just about evaluating what we have and trying to click off a solid run and contend for wins.”
