VINCENTOWN, N.J. (September 7, 2021) - Vincentown, New Jersey’s Justin Whittall was well on his way to a potential top-ten outcome on Monday afternoon at Port Royal Speedway, but an incident at the midpoint of the 25-lap Labor Day Classic forced Whittall to retire early.
The recent Williams Grove Speedway winner was battling within the top-ten at the time of the incident; another’s misfortune with nowhere to go.
Other Labor Day weekend results for Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports include a 14th-place run in Williams Grove Speedway’s Todd Shaffer Tribute on Friday, September 3, followed by a 13th-place finish in Port Royal Speedway’s fair opener on Saturday, September 4.
“It kinda sucks, but that’s the way it goes sometimes,” Justin Whittall said of Monday’s Labor Day Classic. “We were in a position to find the top-ten, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do that again this weekend. The Tuscarora 50 is a race we have circled on our calendar each and every year. We know what we are going to be up against...it all begins with time trials. We need to time well and put ourselves in a solid position early. You can’t get stuck in a hole against a field like that. You’ll never get back out. We have the potential to do big things and that’s what we’re aiming to do.”
Justin Whittall will continue the month of September with the heavily sought-after Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania. The three-day blockbuster, set to headline action on Thursday through Saturday, September 9-11, will feature three complete All Star Circuit of Champions programs kicking-off with an $8,000-to-win preliminary on Thursday. Competition will continue with another preliminary contest on Friday awarding $10,000-to-win, all of which capped with the 54th running of the 50-lap Tuscarora 50 on Saturday. Commemorating its 54th edition, the 2021 Tuscarora 50 will award a $54,000 payday.
Obviously no stranger to Port’s “Speed Palace,” Whittall has one podium finish at the Juniata County Fairgrounds this season, finishing third during an early round of Open Wheel Madness on April 24.
