PETERSEN MEDIA: After an early race miscue on Saturday night during the King of the West finale, Andy Gregg is eager for the 2011 Trophy Cup as he will look to end the season with an exclamation point.
The Trophy Cup is viewed as the biggest race in California as 80-cars are pre registered.
Year after year fans are drawn to this event for the ‘fan-friendly’ format that is utilizes.
The format is simple. Each time a driver hits the track they are awarded finishing points, leading up to the 24-car, 50-lap feature event on Saturday. There is one catch, and that’s the entertaining part; each event sends the top point earners to the rear to ensure an entertaining event for the fans.
During last years event, Gregg was quite the entertainer. After a disappointing qualifying lap, the Placerville, CA native found himself deep in the C-main event. Gregg would run the boards at the high-banked facility and transfer to the back of the ‘B’.
Gregg then proceeded to charge all the way through the ‘B’ and transfer to the feature event.
In the feature event Gregg worked his way into the top-10, until a car broke in front of him and collected him, ending his night,
Saturday night, Gregg was running in a transfer spot in the B, when he lost the handle and failed to transfer to the feature.
Gregg hopes for just as exciting of a weekend this weekend, but hopes to make the 50-lap feature event on Saturday.
“Last weekend we were terrible qualifying and that really hurt our entire weekend,” explained Gregg. “We raced really well all weekend, but failed to make the show on Saturday, so this weekend we have a new car all ready to go, and I think we have a good shot of making the Saturday night feature.”
Andy would like to thank 7industries.com, Ervin Sales Group, Wheel Vintiques, College Cyclery, The Hot Rod Shop, Autism Awareness, Guts Racing, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Jiffy-Tite, C&R Racing, Eagle Chassis, Meyer Motorsports, Hinchman Racing, and Bell for their support as they follow the 2011 King of the West Series.
ON TAP: Gregg will now head to the season ending Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA on Friday and Saturday.
