Inside Line Promotions – SEDALIA, Mo. (Aug. 24, 2021) – Gunner Ramey produced his best weekend of the season by earning a pair of podium finishes.
The Terry Doogs Racing driver scored a season-best runner-up result on Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway before he capped the weekend with a third-place outing on Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway.
The action began on Saturday with a run from seventh to third in a heat race at the dirt oval in Eldon, Mo. That lined him up on the inside of the second row in the A Main.
“We got rolling pretty good and passed some cars in the heat race,” he said. “That set us up pretty good in the feature.
“I stayed in third for the most part. Garet (Williamson) ended up getting into the wall and crashing so that moved us to second. We hung there for the rest of the race. We were fast, but didn’t have enough to beat Ayrton (Gennetten). We weren’t quite as good as we needed to be on the bottom, but overall it was a solid night.”
Ramey wrapped up the weekend by making his debut at Missouri State Fair Speedway on Sunday.
“It was really cool,” he said. “I was excited to go there. It is a historic, fast half mile. There were a lot of people in the stands and a lot of people I know. For the most part I’ve lived (in Sedalia) most of my life. It’s a race I’ve always looked forward to going and watching. To have speed and be fast was great as well, especially on a track I’d never been on. I think that shows how good Terry is. He made me super comfortable and fast right out of the gate.”
Ramey placed second in his heat race and lined up on the inside of the third row for the main event.
“I stayed in fifth for awhile before dropping to sixth,” he said. “I slowly worked my way back up to finish third. I wasn’t super good on the top, but I could make the bottom work when a lot of other people were pretty much running the top. I ended up getting a few cars on the bottom. One driver blew a tire with five or 10 laps to go so that gave us an extra position.”
The rally for a third-place result was Ramey’s fourth podium of the season.
He resumes action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
