Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Aug. 24, 2021) – Frank Flud captured his 23rd feature triumph of the season last Saturday at Port City Raceway.
Flud advanced from fourth to second in a Non-Wing heat race before maneuvering from fourth to win the feature.
“With the rain in the forecast and as much humidity as there was the track was hooked up,” he said. “By the features it started opening up. I was able to go to work on the start and got the lead pretty quick. I had it until we got into traffic. A lapped car half spun in front of me and I had to half spin to miss them. That allowed second place to get by me. We battled for a lap or two before I was able to get back around them with three laps to go.”
Flud felt positive about his chances to produce a stellar run in the Winged ‘A’ Class division as well. He rallied from ninth to fifth in a heat race, which gave him the ninth starting position in the A Main.
“If the track was going to keep widening out I felt we had a good shot,” he said. “The car was pretty good. We are in a groove lately with the development kids and a new mechanic taking the load off me to bring my program back around. We were in a pretty good groove and had a shot at a podium if not a win.”
Rain postponed the feature to this Saturday. Flud plans on returning to Port City Raceway for the make-up feature as well as a full program.
“I would have preferred to run that night,” he said. “Now we’ll be one of the first features and there won’t be many laps when our feature rolls out so it’ll be locked down and hard to pass. We’ll see what we can do.”
