Inside Line Promotions – WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (Aug. 23, 2021) – Greg Wilson posted his season-best result with the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions last Friday at I-96 Speedway.
The Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics sponsored driver guided Seeling Motorsports from 15th to a seventh-place finish before rallying from 17th to 11th on Saturday at Waynesfield Raceway Park.
“If we could just get timed in well,” he said. “I felt we had one of the fastest cars both nights. You just can’t start that deep. Both tracks were just awesome come feature-time. You could race and move all over. We’re making really good adjustments and getting the most out of our cars. We’re just starting too deep.”
Wilson qualified 15th quickest on Friday to kick off the action at the dirt track in Lake Odessa, Mich. He then finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race to garner the 15th starting position in the A Main.
“Our car was good,” he said. “I could move around and I was really, really good on restarts. We were probably going to run around ninth or 10th, but we had a late restart and I got a couple of spots at the end. Realistically we could have been a couple of spots better. I made a couple of mistakes early in the race. As it strung out it was hard to make up positions. I feel like we were one of the better cars at the end of that race, but you can’t start 15th and expect to run in the top five.”
The eight positions gained was tied for the second most.
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Waynesfield Raceway Park, where Wilson timed in 19th quickest. He advanced from seventh to sixth in a heat race to secure the 17th starting spot for the feature.
“On Saturday we had a decent pill draw and I felt like I drove good laps and the car really rolled around there good in qualifying,” he said. “It’s the first time I was really dejected with our qualifying time. I felt like we did everything we could do. We’ve talked about it and need to focus on that. No matter what we do if we could just start up front we’ll be competitive. I’m happy with how the car runs in the features. We’ve passed a lot of race cars. Qualifying is just hurting us.
“Waynesfield is a little bullring. The Helms Family did a hell of a job with the race track. It was awesome. You could move around. Being a bullring it’s hard to make up spots. There’s so many cars all over the place. I love it. I felt like we got about as much out of it as we could without being involved in wrecks. If we could have started in the thick of things I don’t feel like we would have backed up. I could really get around the top of turns one and two well. In turns three and four I could get around the bottom and toward the end I could go across the middle. When we did that we got a spot or two.”
Wilson’s run from 17th to 11th marked the third most positions gained.
