Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Aug. 10, 2021) – Frank Flud recorded a trio of podium results last Saturday at Port City Raceway.
The highlight of the night came in the Winged ‘A’ Class division as Flud advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race before he won the feature from the third starting spot. It was his 22nd triumph of the season.
“By then the track had really widened out,” he said. “I fell back on the start and worked my way back up on the bottom. Once we got the lead we moved up top. It was a little rough. We were able to go above the ruts on entry to carry momentum.”
Flud was also a contender in the Outlaw main event as he hustled from eighth to second while piloting his ‘A’ Class car.
“I ran my stock car in the outlaw class,” he said. “It’s down quite a bit of horsepower. Engine and wings are the big differences.
“It went good. I feel like if it’d have been 25 laps I might have been able to win. I just kept clicking off consistent laps and taking advantage of other people’s mistakes. We had a chance at the end, but I knew I couldn’t pull a slide job on the last lap because I didn’t have the power to get out of it.”
Flud maneuvered from fifth to third place in a Non-Wing heat race and from sixth to third in the main event.
“The track was pretty one groove around the top at that point,” he said. “You could go to the bottom to pass a guy, but you had to be a lot faster. We hung out around the top. The exit was so far washed out you couldn’t pull good slide jobs because they were able to turn right back under you.
“It was a good night. We always want to win every time we’re in the car. I can’t complain about it looking at some of the events that happened on the track. We can be pretty pleased with how we finished.”
Flud will take this weekend off before returning to Port City Raceway on Aug. 21.
