Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Aug. 10, 2021) – Joey Amantea garnered a pair of top-15 results with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars last weekend, recording finishes of 15th on Friday at Bloomsburg Fair Raceway and 11th on Sunday at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Amantea also competed in a micro sprint on Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., where he ended with a disappointing DNF as a result of damage sustained in a multiple-car wreck.
“I just didn’t really do a great job in the wingless 360 all weekend, but the micro sprint start is just disappointing,” he said. “We’ve been fighting motor gremlins all season and now that we finally got it sorted out we just can’t buy ourselves any luck.”
Amantea kicked off the three-race week on Wednesday at Action Track USA behind the wheel of his family owned No. 88j wingless micro sprint. He started off the night by finishing where he started – fourth – in a heat race. He lined up 14th for the feature and worked his way up to seventh before getting caught up in an accident on the bottom of the track. It ended his night early with a DNF.
“Wednesday night was shaping up to be a really good night and we had a really fast race car,” he said. “There was some confusion on a restart about guys in front of me being in the right place. I just shouldn’t have ever been in that position to begin with.”
Friday night marked a first-ever visit to Bloomsburg Fair Raceway in Bloomsburg, Pa., and Amantea started off the action by finishing sixth in a heat race. He had to run the B Main and he earned the 17th starting spot in the feature following a second-place finish in the consolation race. Amantea struggled to get a feel for the car and the track as he advanced two positions in the A Main to place 15th.
“We were really quick in hot laps and were fourth quick, but needed to tighten the car up a lot for the heat race,” he said. “We made the adjustments for the B Main and got ourselves into the feature, but come feature-time the car was too tight then and I couldn’t really make up much ground at all on track.”
Amantea closed out the weekend on Sunday at Selinsgrove Speedway, where he gained two positions in a heat race to finish fourth. He lined up 11th for the feature and finished in that position. The top-15 outing was his 24th of the season. He currently sits eighth in the series standings after 15 events.
“Every time we have gone to Selinsgrove the track has been really heavy, but it was way different Sunday and our setup was not prepped for that kind of track,” he said. “We got as high as eighth in the feature, but the car faded late and it just marked the end of a disappointing weekend.”
Next up for Amantea will be a trio of wingless micro sprint starts. He’ll visit Action Track USA on Wednesday and on Sunday. Sandwiched in between those starts will be a stop at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., on Friday.
“There’s some good money on the line this week in the micro sprint ranks so I’d like to have a good week of racing,” he said. “I know with all my heart that we can contend with these guys and there is no reason we can’t have a shot to win any of these races. We just need to find some luck and run our race and we’ll have a shot each night.”
