Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Aug. 3, 2021) – Jack Dover earned a pair of podium finishes last weekend to give him five podiums in his last 10 races during the last month.
Dover placed third on Saturday during a Midwest Sprint Touring Series race in his No. 53 at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D., before he tied a career-best second-place showing in the 410 sprint car division at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday while driving the Rick and Chris Bowers’ No. 81.
“It’s pretty good,” Dover said. “I’d rather be winning these races, but being consistent is a huge confidence booster. We have a couple of areas we can get better at, which I think I know what they are. It’s more setup stuff. We’re learning more each week.”
Dover opened the action on Friday by placing second in a heat race at I-90 Speedway. That garnered a spot into the feature redraw and unfortunately Dover drew the highest number – eight – to line up on the outside of the fourth row on the tricky track.
“We set sail up top the first two laps and got around some guys running the bottom,” he said. “I went above them and got to third right away. Then we got down in line. The track was around the bottom and rough. I probably could have been more aggressive throughout the race, but I was trying to survive and not wreck the car before Nationals.
“I’m very pleased. Obviously we’ve won a lot there in the past and that’s always my expectation, but any night you can come out with a podium is an awesome night.”
Dover shifted gears on Sunday by hopping into the Bowers’ sprint car at Huset’s Speedway. He qualified 12th quickest before winning a heat race from the pole position to advance into the feature redraw.
“I felt like my attitude was different,” he said. “I’m not sure why, but I felt like it was my night. In time trials we didn’t do real well, but come the heat race we got a good start and checked out. Then in the feature we were good on the bottom early on. That started going away and we moved to the top. I felt that was the best the car has felt up top all year long. We softened up the car and made it tighter. It’s something to go off of for future races there.”
Dover advanced to second early and spent most of the race within striking distance of the leader during the Bull Haulers Brawl presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking before ending second. He remains third in the championship standings.
Next up for Dover is the 31st annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. His preliminary night is Thursday and the event wraps up on Saturday.
