Williamson Wins Sprint Invaders Event to Build Momentum Entering 360 Knoxville Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – MOBERLY, Mo. (Aug. 2, 2021) – Garet Williamson earned his first feature victory of the season and first career with the Sprint Invaders on Sunday at Randolph County Raceway.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver swept the night by winning a heat race, the dash and the main event. It was Williamson’s first victory since August of last year.

“I think we’ve been close a lot this year,” he said. “Hopefully it will open it up to more wins this year. The first one is always the hardest. We just finally put all the pieces together.”

Williamson was a frontrunner throughout the night, winning a heat race from the pole and the dash from third. He quickly took the lead in the feature and didn’t panic when another driver got by in the second half of the race.

“I took the lead and around Lap 13 someone got by us,” he said. “I was rolling the bottom pretty good. I stayed calm and moved my line around. I moved to the top and got my momentum rolling. A lap or two later I got back by him, driving under him on the frontstretch.

“Coming into the biggest week of the year it’s always nice to get the confidence rolling.”

The victory capped a four-race week for the team, which placed 15th last Tuesday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., and 21st on Wednesday at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., during Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour ASCS Sprint Week races.

Williamson then ended with a DNF on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where the action continues this week with the running of the 31st annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

“I think we struggled a lot on Saturday,” he said. “I didn’t feel we were very good, but we made the show with 40-some cars. And Sunday we changed some stuff and got the feeling back. Hopefully that will carry us into a good showing at the 360 Knoxville Nationals.”

Williamson’s preliminary night is scheduled for Thursday with the finale on Saturday. He placed 13th during his preliminary night last year.

“We want to run in the top 10 and have a good chance at locking into the show on Saturday,” he said. “It starts with qualifying on our prelim night. If we can put down a good lap it will set us up to have a good weekend.”
