Brian Brown – Lonestar Sprint Nationals Next!

(Bill W) October 12, 2011 – After a couple of weeks off, the Brian Brown Racing FVP #21 team is ready to head into action tomorrow night in Texas! The inaugural running of the Lonestar Sprint Nationals commences Thursday through Saturday at the Lonestar Speedway west of Kilgore, Texas, and will pay $12,000 to the winner. The best of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series will be joined by several heavy hitters from around the country.

The Grain Valley, Missouri driver and the team used the time off to get regrouped. “Being off for two weeks is almost like having a fresh season again,” says Brian. “Everything is ready, back in order and ready to ‘Rock and Roll’. That’s what Bryan (Sunby) and Chaddy (Cypert) have been doing. I’m amped up about the next month and a half.”

Brian will have members of the partnership team in attendance. “I’m excited about Kilgore,” he says. “It’s cool that Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) and his family have put up good money for us to race for. With close to 70 cars there, it’s going to be tough to come out on top, but we’re giving it a shot. We have some of our partners down here who don’t get to see us much: Smiley’s, TI64 and Hoosier Tire Southwest.”

After Kilgore, Brian will stay with the ASCS series at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Mesquite, Texas next week, and the Short Track Nationals in Little Rock in two weeks. “It’s great that Kilgore, Devil’s Bowl and Little Rock are all lined up in consecutive weekends,” he says. “We haven’t had that in the past. Then it will be on to Charlotte (North Carolina) and Las Cruces (New Mexico) to finish off the year.”

A lot of dough will be available. “There’s a lot of money up for grabs, and I think the minimum amount to win is $6,000,” says Brian. “I’m proud of the promoters and the tracks for stepping up and promoting sprint car racing. I think the fans will be the big winner. You’re going to see some big car counts and some great racing from here on out.”

The FVP team will be prepared for the competition. “With the level of competition, you really have to concentrate on what you’re doing,” says Brian. “The key is getting in a position to win every night. You don’t have to want to come from the back with these fields. That’s what our focus has been on getting the car ready.”

Three years ago, Brian claimed the Cowtown Nationals in Kennedale, Texas and has had success at the Devil’s Bowl and Little Rock too. “We’ve had some success down here definitely,” he says. “I can’t say we have a ton of wins, but we’ve done o.k. The last time we were at Kilgore, I thought we had the fastest car. It laid rubber and we ended up fifth. I think the new configuration will be fun to run.”

Brian's Q&A

Nick Bronson asks: What are your thoughts on Toby Kruse being hired as General Manager at Knoxville?

Brian answers: I just talked to him yesterday and congratulated him. I wanted to let him know that we would help him in any way we can. I think Ralph Capitani has done a great job at getting Knoxville where it is, and Toby will bring some new energy to build on that. Toby is really going to concentrate on building the weekly show there and getting it to where it should be. I don’t think he’ll do it alone, but he has a good team with John McCoy and Brian Stickel. I think the “Prelude to the Nationals” is just one example of a great event that we can expect in 2012.
