Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (July 26, 2021) – Trey Starks earned a pair of top-10 results last weekend during the Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals hosted by Skagit Speedway.
Starks was strong throughout the weekend, which began on Friday when he qualified fourth quickest. A run from third to second place in a heat race advanced Starks into the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 6 to line up on the outside of the third row for the A Main.
“In qualifying we tried something with the gear and it just didn’t quite work,” he said. “We were slightly off. We had a decent heat race knowing we just needed to finish in the top five.
“In the feature we were working our way up and had a decent car. We got to fourth and there was a restart about halfway. I got to third in turns one and two. I went to slide for second going into turn three when I hit a hole. The car bounced and all but got upside down. That shuffled us back to seventh or eighth. The top four locked in for Saturday. From that point I was focused on getting back to fourth. We worked our way back and got into fourth with two or three laps to go.”
Starks’ rebound for a fourth-place finish locked him into the feature redraw of Saturday’s main event.
“We drew the six again for the feature and we didn’t really get a good start,” he said. “I think we fell back to seventh or eighth. We had a couple of cautions that didn’t fall our way. Finally we started hitting our stride approaching the halfway point. We were into fourth and fighting for third. We had a lapped car basically spin in front of the third-place running car and myself. Although we didn’t come to a stop, we got into the back of a car pretty hard and basically ripped the nose wing off. From there it was a handful. I just rolled around and tried to stay out of trouble. It was a pretty disappointing finish. We were really good in long runs on Saturday. I think we needed long green-flag runs to get cars strung out and get into traffic to start going to work, but it didn’t go our way.”
Starks was credited with an eighth-place result.
He will take this weekend off before heading to Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore., for the Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic on Aug. 6-7.
