Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 21, 2021) – Derek Hagar is working on building his 410ci winged sprint car program and last week was a step forward.

Hagar ventured to Eldora Speedway for the first time in six years as the famed half-mile oval featured a pair of $175,000-to-win Kings Royal races as well as two regular World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series shows.

“It was a learning curve for us,” he said. “We had a brand new race car and a lot of things going against us. It took us a minute to get things underneath us. We finally got a good balance on the car for the C Main on Saturday during the day show. We went back to the basics of what we know works and it felt like we had the car underneath us. Our biggest thing is we have to get better at qualifying.”

Hagar noted the best he felt in the car all week was on Saturday when he rallied from 10th to win the C Main during the first Kings Royal, which had been postponed from Thursday night to Saturday afternoon. He then maneuvered from 17th to 12th in the B Main, but the track took rubber to halt his opportunity to continue to move forward.

“You learn every time you hit the track with these guys,” he said. “Part of the learning curve is getting your butt whooped. We learned a lot and got some good notes. I’m looking forward to running some more with them. The more we run with them the better it will make our racing program. And if we get better with the 410 deal it will help our 360 performances as well.”

Hagar capped the week by making the World of Outlaws A Main on Sunday afternoon. He secured the final transfer into the feature through the Last Chance Showdown and maneuvered from 24th toward the top 10 before exiting the track early because of an overheating engine.

“Finally making an A Main was a highlight,” he said. “We got up to 13th and the motor started running warm. It was missing on the top end so I made the decision to pull in and save the motor. We had a caution and it cooled back down to 180 degrees. Once I got back to the top it still was missing a little with wide open throttle. I had to start running three-quarter throttle. Once I went down a lap I decided to pull in and it was a smart decision not to push our luck with the engine.”

Hagar plans to return to action on Thursday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for ASCS Sprint Week opener with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour before invading Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., on Friday and Saturday for a FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader.
