Setters Positive Following Successful Western Sprint Tour Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 21, 2021) – James Setters nearly doubled his season race total last week when he tackled the Western Sprint Tour Speedweek.

Setters powered his family owned sprint car to one top 10 and five top 15s during the five-race series that tackled four tracks in the state of Oregon. He finished in the top 10 in the event standings.

“I think it went pretty good,” he said. “We definitely learned a lot about racing on small tracks that are less wide. It was definitely a lot different. You’re not getting into the corners on the wing and you’re racing closer to people than I’m used to. I liked it.”

The best result came during the opening round on July 12 when Setters placed 10th during his debut at Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay. He followed that up with a 13th-place result the ensuing night at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon and a 12th-place showing on July 14 at Sunset Speedway in Banks.

“We had some car trouble after Coos Bay and didn’t figure it out until Banks,” he said. “We bent the torque tube. We got that fixed and I think we ran better at Cottage Grove.”

Cottage Grove Speedway hosted the final two Speedweek rounds last weekend. Setters finished 12th on Friday and 15th on Saturday.

“The car was better and we learned things with the setup throughout the week,” he said. “I think we’re definitely better after experiencing Speedweek. I have more control under the car.”

Setters plans on returning to action this Friday and Saturday at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., with the ASCS Frontier Region. He charged from 22nd to 12th last year during his most recent ASCS Frontier Region start at the track.

“We’re hoping for a podium both nights,” he said. “We learned some things throughout the Western Sprint Tour Speedweek that I think will help us and the more we race the better we get.”
