DOVER PICKS UP A PAIR OF 4th-PLACE FINISHES

DOVER PICKS UP A PAIR OF 4th-PLACE FINISHES

Inside Line Promotions – HARTFORD, S.D. (July 12) – Nine.

It’s a staggering number and it equals the amount of cars Jack Dover passed in one lap last Saturday at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D., at the ASCS Midwest Region race.

“I knew they were all gonna go to the bottom because that’s where the moisture was,” he said. “They all bunched up on the bottom and I went to the top. I probably got six cars in turns one and two.”

That lap, which was midway through the feature, helped salvage a good night and maintain Dover’s usual prowess in the top five. After picking up a couple more positions before the checkered flag, Dover finished fourth – his 16th top five in 22 features this season and his second of the weekend.

“I think we could have won it,” he said. “Maybe five or 10 more laps, we could have won it.”

The night started out inauspiciously when Dover started sixth and finished fifth in his heat race. That forced the 20-year-old from Springfield, Neb., to run a B Main, which he won after starting third.

He then started 17th in the main event and charged his way to fourth, gaining a majority of the positions on that one lap.

It was Dover’s second consecutive fourth-place finish after earning a top five on Friday night at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn.

He worked his way from seventh to third in his heat race, which gave him the second-most points. However, Dover picked the number five for the redraw of the dash and he finished sixth, lining him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

Dover maintained his position in the top five for most of the race, which was decided at the end in lapped traffic.

“We were right there with Jason Johnson and Wayne Johnson,” Dover said. “It was a good race. We got in lapped traffic quickly. There were lapped cars everywhere. They just got through lapped traffic a little better than I did.”

Dover is scheduled for a trio of races in three different states this week, beginning on Wednesday at Sioux Speedway in Sioux Center, Iowa, with the JSTS. He will then race on Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway in Cameron, Mo., with the ASCS Midwest and Warrior Regions before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kan., for the $5,000-to-win NCRA event.
