Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (July 13, 2021) – Elliot Amdahl charged to a pair of top-five finishes in IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car action last weekend, placing fifth at I-90 Speedway on Saturday night before notching a fourth-place result at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.
“It wasn’t exactly the weekend we were hoping for, but it went okay,” said Amdahl, who moved forward in each race he competed in. “We tried a lot of different things with the car and felt we learned some things. We changed some things with the fueling of the motor and it felt like it had more power – more like what it was last year.
“We had the fastest lap in the feature at both tracks so we know we have speed, we just didn’t show it in the results.”
Amdahl advanced from sixth to third place in his heat race at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D., on Saturday before charging from 10th to fifth in the feature.
“I hit some ruts early in the feature and fell back to 12th,” he said. “But then we were able to come back and finish fifth. The car tightened up a bit more than we wanted it to and that may have kept us from doing better.”
Amdahl started third and finished second in his heat race at Huset’s Speedway before rolling off sixth in the A Main starting grid.
“We were able to get from sixth to third rather quickly,” he said. “We were hanging right with first and second when I tried running the top while the others were on the bottom. That didn’t really work out and we wound up finishing fourth.
“The car was still a little too tight. The track didn’t get as racy as we thought it would and the fast line stayed around the bottom. But it was still a good learning weekend and I got a familiar feel back with the car. Now we just need to fine-tune some things a bit and maybe be a little bit better on our setup.”
Amdahl has a busy racing schedule ahead.
“I’m planning to race Steve Ziebarth’s 360 with the MSTS Friday at Jackson, Saturday at I-90 and Tuesday at Rock Rapids,” he said. “We’re planning to run our 305 at Huset’s on Sunday and possibly at I-90 on Saturday.”
