Inside Line Promotions – HARTFORD, S.D. (July 7, 2021) – Elliot Amdahl produced an efficient night last Saturday when he was occupied with double-duty action at I-90 Speedway, where he followed up a charge from 13th to third in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature with a seventh-place run in the Midwest Sprint Touring Series 360ci sprint car main event.

“I was happy with our night,” he said. “We passed a lot of cars in the 305 feature. It would’ve been nice to get a top five in the 360 feature, but the track took rubber before it was half over and there wasn’t much passing after that.”

Amdahl raced from eighth to fifth in his heat race to grab the final transfer spot into the 305 A Main. He then earned the Hard Charger Award after passing 10 cars for the podium finish.

“My goal in the 305 is usually to make the top three in the feature,” he said. “With the IMCA points deal, we usually start in the back of our heat and toward the back of the feature, so it’s not easy to do.

“I was able to get by some cars pretty early in the feature and got to third about halfway. There was a good race for first going on in front of us. I was able to catch them when we were in lapped traffic. But once there was a caution and the track opened for them, our car was a little too loose to keep up. We needed lapped traffic in order to have a chance to challenge for the win, but the cautions didn’t fall our way.”

A poor draw hampered Amdahl in 360 competition in the Ziebarth No. 86.

“We started fifth in our heat race and were able to move up to fourth, but we were two spots short in points to make the invert for the A Main and we started 10th,” he said. “I was up to sixth kind of early in the race and we were all racing around the top, which was going away pretty quickly. A guy slid me with about 12 laps to go and I was going to slide him back when I noticed his right rear got stuck in the rubber.

“It was pretty much one lane after that. I think they shortened the race by a few laps. It was a hot and windy night.”

Next up for Amdahl will be 305 competition this Sunday at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D.

“We’re still waiting for a part for our 410 engine,” he said. “We’re hoping we’ll be able to race it in a couple of weeks, but it’s not for sure.”
