Inside Line Promotions – SWEET SPRINGS, Mo. (July 6, 2021) – Frank Flud registered a pair of top-10 results last weekend during the Small Town Throwdown at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex.

Flud made up for a sixth-place finish in a heat race on Friday by hustling from 13th to fifth in a qualifier. That earned a spot into the outlaw winged feature and Flud maneuvered from 11th to fifth for his 39th top five of the season.

“We were passing for the lead in the heat race when we broke a chain, which seems to be a problem for us lately,” he said. “That ended our heat race early and we had to regroup from there. In the qualifier I had nothing to lose. The whole track was on the top. I set up for the bottom. On the start everybody went to the top so I had a free lane. Within a couple of laps I got to fifth and got up in line.

“We were fortunate throughout the whole night to miss some wrecks and keep our nose clean. That is what ended with us finishing fifth in the feature. We made some smart choices and I had some luck on my side.”

Friday’s performance put Flud in a good position entering the finale on Saturday. He advanced from sixth to second place in a shuffle to garner the eighth starting position in the main event.

“I made some good moves on the bottom and got to second within the first lap or two,” he said. “Once we got wound up we were really all the same speed.”

An ill-handling car plagued Flud during the second half of the feature.

“I was up to fifth at one point and as far back as 12th or 13th,” he said. “Once the green flag dropped I felt like I had some speed. We moved to fifth early on. I don’t know if I had a tire seal over, but it seemed like after that I was along for the ride. I avoided some wrecks and ended up sixth. I went from having a decent car to hoping they’d throw the checkered. I think the driver was top five and the car was around 14th and we finished sixth.”

Flud’s sixth-place showing was his 45th top 10 of the season.

Next up for Flud is the remainder of the 10th annual Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial this Saturday at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. Flud starts on the pole of two features and sixth in another.

“Hopefully we can represent at that event and continue to have a good showing like I have in years past,” he said. “That event means a lot to me.”
