Scotty Thiel and the #64 STM Sprint Car team drove to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin this past Saturday to race the final event of the 2011 MSA Sprint Car Series. It was a very cold night and Scotty rounded out the night with a top 10 finish.
Thiel picked a 2 pill which set him to start on the pole of the second heat race event. After taking the green flag, Scotty never looked back and checked out on the field. Ten laps came quick and Thiel crossed the line taking the win and placing him into a ninth place starting spot for the nights A-Main event. At the drop of the green flag for the A-main event, it took Scotty a little bit to find his line and after a few laps of racing, he began to pick off cars. Thiel was on a mission and was up close to the top 5 before a Red flag flew. During the red, Scotty noticed that the top wing was starting to collapse in the middle and visibility was starting to get slim. They went back to green and the wing started to brake more. Scotty still drove the car hard and made a pass or two. Another red came out and Scotty knew he had to do something to fix the problem. There was under 5 laps left, so no work area was allowed. He decided to pull back on the wing ram, which made the top wing slid back and gave him a little more room to see. The car got tight after they went back to green flag action, and Scotty would come across the finish line in 7th position.
Scotty had a great car all night long. The crew set it up well and they were really fast every time the car was on the track. It was just unfortunate that the wing had to do what it did because the crew felt that they had a top 3 car for sure.
