Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (June 29, 2021) – The Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial is one of the most special events each year for Frank Flud, who set himself up for another successful showing last weekend when Port City Raceway hosted the 10th edition of the micro sprint spectacle.

Flud won two of the three classes he entered during Friday’s preliminary night and he was a lap away from a sweep before a broken chain relegated him to sixth in the outlaw feature.

“The DRC is pretty special to me with how close me and Papa Ray were,” he said. “Me and Donnie Ray were friends, too. It’s definitely a race I hold pretty special to me. This year was the first year without Papa Ray, who passed away earlier this year. It’s one of the ones that I treat like it’s extra special.

“I led every lap in the outlaw feature until we had a green-white-checkered finish. We took the green and came around to take the white and we kicked the chain off. I was able to coast the rest of the way and come home sixth.”

Flud advanced from fifth to win the non-wing main event.

“We rode around in fifth or sixth for a while,” he said. “I kept working the bottom as much as I could. I was finally able to work my way into the top three. Then I was able to start putting pressure on the leaders. They started racing each other and I was able to sneak by them. The top was definitely the preferred line. I was fortunate to keep the car pinned to pressure guys until they’d mess up. Once I got by both of them I jumped up top. Josh Marcham kept me on my toes the last few laps.”

Flud also picked up the winged ‘A’ class victory after starting on the pole.

“I didn’t get too far out front or have much breathing room, but I was able to lead flag to flag,” he said.

The two wins locked Flud into the pole position for the finale on Saturday. A heat race win garnered the sixth-place starting position in the outlaw main event, but rain washed out the features that night. The finale has been rescheduled for July 9.

Flud is heading to Sweet Springs Motorsports Park in Sweet Springs, Mo., for the Small Town Throwdown this Friday and Saturday.

“Hopefully we can have some good runs there,” he said. “I have both of my development kids and I’ve taken on another one this weekend for Sweet Springs. If I don’t come out of there with a ‘W’ hopefully my kids will come out with some strong runs in the feature.”
