Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 22, 2021) – Elliot Amdahl capped a solid weekend with a second-place showing in the 305ci sprint car feature Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway after finishing sixth in a 360ci main event Friday night at Rapid Speedway.
“It was a pretty good weekend for us,” he said. “We focused on finishing races and now we’re focusing on where we finish. I’m happy with the way our weekend went.”
Amdahl started and finished third in his heat race at Huset’s Speedway before lining up fifth in the 17-car feature.
“I moved up a spot early and then was able to go from fourth to second on a restart,” he said. “The car was really loose and I wasn’t able to run the top as well as I wanted.
“We had a restart with a few laps left and I tried half a slider on the leader. I kind of kicked myself later for maybe being too nice with it. I probably could’ve taken his line away and I don’t think he could’ve been able to get back by me.”
The runner-up result was Amdahl’s best outing of the season.
Amdahl’s visit to Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Friday for competition with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series and Midwest Power Series went better than anticipated.
“I don’t really look forward to racing at Rocky because we haven’t done well there in the past,” said Amdahl, who piloted Steve Ziebarth’s car. “But this was my first-time driving Steve’s car there and it felt good right out of the gate.”
A fourth-place finish in his heat race after starting fifth placed him 10th on the feature starting grid.
“The car felt great and I was able to move forward,” he said. “We were in sixth with about eight laps to go when I lost a brake caliper and all the brakes. That was unfortunate since we may have been able to gain another position or two. But I was able to limp it home without losing any spots so that was good.”
Next up for Amdahl will be 305 competition this Saturday at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D.
