Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 21, 2021) – Roger Crockett took another step forward at Knoxville Raceway last Friday by scoring his first top five in a 360ci winged sprint car race at the half-mile oval since August 2012.

Crockett qualified 13th quickest, placed third in a heat race and charged from 15th to fourth in the A Main for his second top 10 at the track in as many weeks.

“I felt like we ran a pretty good lap for where we went out in qualifying,” he said. “We went out pretty late and we were close to Austin McCarl’s time. He’s really fast there generally. In the heat race we had a good starting spot and we just didn’t capitalize. The motor stumbled on the start and we were fourth by the flagstand. We got one spot back and that was it.

“In the main event we were really good. The second half of the race we were running some of the fastest laps. We were better on the bottom than most people. Our car was really good. One positive thing is in years past we’re really good in the heat races and off in the features. This year we’ve been really good in the main events.”

Crockett’s fourth-place result marked his fourth top five of the season.

He made his 410ci winged sprint car season debut at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. Crockett qualified ninth quickest and finished fifth in a heat race. He battled for a top 10 throughout the main event before ending 12th.

“We qualified pretty good for going out as one of the last cars,” he said. “I had a pretty decent lap. I could have cleaned it up a little and got a couple more tenths out of it. Then in the heat we didn’t get a good start again. Going down the straightaway the car turned sideways so we got a terrible start. You can’t lose spots in the heat race so that buried us.

“In the feature we ran where we started most of the race. There was spotty rubber. We gained a few spots early and then lost some. I didn’t realize it laid rubber up high. I felt like our speed was fine, but back there racing in dirty air with those talented drivers is tough. We had some good racing with guys like Terry McCarl and Davey Heskin.”
