Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 16, 2021) – Jack Dover captured a trio of podium finishes last weekend to give him nine podium outings this season.

Dover earned a pair of third-place results in his No. 53 sprint car during Midwest Sprint Touring Series and Midwest Power Series competition on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., and on Saturday at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D., before he recorded a career-best 410ci winged sprint car finish of second place at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday while driving for Rick and Chris Bowers.

“A lot of racers would be really happy with it, but I’m kind of struggling with my car,” Dover said. “I’m trying to find a comfort level. I’m not sure if it’s trying to get used to the new tire or if the chassis is working differently. Coming out with two third-place finishes isn’t terrible, but it’s not my expectation.

“I was really pleased with Sunday night. We turned our fastest lap there at 10.8 seconds so we’re getting the qualifying thing figured out. That sets us up pretty good for the heat races and come feature-time. We just have to find a little more speed in the feature and I think we’ll have a shot at winning one of these.”

Dover’s efficient weekend began with a heat race win after starting third on Friday at Jackson Motorplex. The feature redraw placed him in the fifth starting spot for the main event.

“I set up for the top side of the track,” he said. “It was still too free to run up top like I did the first couple of laps. Rubber started coming in on the bottom so I had to move down. I felt like maybe if the track did what I was thinking it’d do I would still be off so we were happy with third.”

Dover duplicated the same results on Saturday at I-90 Speedway, where he won a heat race from the pole before maneuvering from sixth to third place in the A Main.

“Similar to Friday I thought the track would be up top and the rubber came in on the bottom,” he said. “We gained our positions early and then it was pretty much just fall in line and try to survive.”

The weekend wrapped up with another solid outing by Dover in the Bowers’ No. 81 sprint car at Huset’s Speedway. Dover qualified seventh quickest, which put him on the outside of the front row in a heat race. He got the jump on the start and led the distance for his third heat race of the weekend and fifth in a row.

The performance earned a spot in the feature redraw and Dover pulled the No. 2 to garner the outside of the front row for the 25-lap main event. Dover led the opening lap before falling to second on Lap 2. He stayed within striking distance of the leader throughout the race, but was unable to make a move for the lead. However, his second-place outing moved him up to fourth in the Huset’s Speedway championship standings.

“In qualifying we turned our fastest lap this year so that was a confidence booster,” he said. “With (Brooke) Tatnell and (Carson) McCarl and those guys in your heat, to win that gives you even more confidence. When you have someone like Austin McCarl on the pole in the feature that kind of takes your confidence away. I felt we’d be a top-three car. We just need a little more speed in the corners. Once we figure that out we’ll be battling for first.”

Dover has another busy week coming up. He will return to the Bowers’ No. 81 at Huset’s Speedway for THE SHOWDOWN featuring the Chuck Zitterich Tribute on Sunday and the Huset’s 50 presented by BillionAuto.com on Monday and Tuesday with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. The action then shifts to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., for the AGCO Jackson Nationals June 24-26.

“Our goal right now is to survive all week and try to make the A Features,” he said. “Anything beyond making the A Feature is a huge bonus with the caliber of cars that will be there.”
