Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 16, 2021) – After a somewhat frustrating beginning to the season, Elliot Amdahl enjoyed a relatively incident-free weekend of racing.

In three nights of competition, he followed a 13th-place finish on Friday with a pair of top-10 outings on Saturday and Sunday.

“It was a good weekend for us,” he said. “We finished every feature, something we’ve had trouble doing this year. At this point we’re just kind of worried about finishing races. Once we get to doing that we’ll worry more about where we finish.”

Amdahl’s racing weekend began on Friday in Steve Ziebarth’s car during a Midwest Power Series and Midwest Sprint Touring Series event at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn.

“We didn’t time the best (16th of 26 drivers), but that will get better as we race there more with this car,” Amdahl said. “We started 16th in the feature and got up to around 10th the first couple of laps. Then the rubber came in around the bottom of the track. I got down there a little late and finished 13th.”

Amdahl also drove the Ziebarth sprint car the following night in another MSTS race at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D.

“I started ninth in the feature and got to fifth rather quickly,” he said. “Then we had a restart with about nine or 10 laps to go. I had been running the top until then, but decided to go to the bottom on the restart to protect myself from anyone sliding me. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize there wasn’t any moisture or traction down there. I got passed by two cars on the top and then got slid on exit by another. The rubber came in shortly after that and I finished ninth.”

Amdahl capped his weekend by driving his own 305ci sprint car at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night.

“We changed some things on the car from when we were at Huset’s two weeks before and this time the car felt great,” he said. “We started first in the heat race and was leading by more than a straightaway when the shifter cable came off the rear end with two or three laps to go. That put us starting last in the 20-car feature. We were able to go from 20th to 10th. I probably could’ve passed a few more cars if I had gone to the top earlier.”

Amdahl’s final race of the weekend was a strong effort, earning him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“I was really happy with the car,” he said. “It was much better than when we were there a couple of weeks ago when it felt very uncomfortable.”

Up next for Amdahl will be competition with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series and Midwest Power Series at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Friday and a return to Huset’s Speedway in the 305 division on Sunday as he awaits the return of his 410 engine.

“We’re hoping to get our 410 back in about a week,” he said. “Our racing schedule is just kind of race to race until we can start racing the 410 again.”
