Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (June 16, 2021) – Gunner Ramey recorded his best result of the season Saturday night at Lake Ozark Speedway, where he earned his first podium of the year by finishing third in the 18-lap 360ci winged sprint car feature.
“It feels great to follow up last week with another good run this week,” the Terry Doogs Racing driver said.
Ramey’s previous best run came just a week prior at Legit Speedway Park in West Plains, Mo., where he placed seventh, building the momentum he hopes to carry throughout the summer months.
“Right now we’ve got the speed and the driver is getting better every time out on the track,” he said.
Ramey cross the finish line first in the lone heat race of the night after starting on the pole in the seven-car field. The Sedalia, Mo., driver then lined up on the outside of the front row to start the feature.
“The track was the polar opposite of what it was a few weeks back,” he said. “The track was smooth as glass and hard as concrete.”
The action was settled in the first corner on the first lap and Ramey didn’t get the start he would have liked, dropping to third. From there, it was single file all the way around the track with no room to spare between the car and the wall.
“The right side of my car was caked with concrete after the race from pushing the high side as far as it would go,” he said.
With back-to-back season-best finishes, Ramey is eager to get to Victory Lane.
“We’re moving in a really positive direction right now and if we keep doing what we’ve been doing the wins will come,” he said.
Ramey will run double features at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday night, including the make-up feature for the race that was postponed due to rain on May 15.
“I’m excited to run two features and get a bunch of laps in,” he said. “We are making incremental gains each and every time we go to Knoxville, and I’m looking forward to it this weekend. It all starts with a good qualifying effort and track position will follow. If we can manage that, we’ll be in for a good weekend.”
Ramey has finishes of 12th and 10th in his two starts at Knoxville Raceway this year.
