Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 15, 2021) – Trey Starks earned his best result of the season last Saturday at Skagit Speedway during his final tune-up prior to two huge weekends of action in his home state of Washington.

Starks qualified second quickest and placed fifth in a heat race, which placed him on the inside of the second row for the main event. He maintained a podium position throughout the feature before ending with a third-place result.

“I made some mistakes late in the race that could have cost us a win,” he said. “I pulled my wing back and tried to run the middle and it almost worked. We got to second about halfway. I was following the leader through traffic when we had a caution. I was starting to move around in traffic and thought I found some grip in the middle. I pulled my wing back and tried to commit to it to find a lane to get by him. I pulled even, but couldn’t get by. Pulling my wing back made me too tight on the other end of the track and in the closing laps we lost a spot there.”

Next up for Starks is the Fred Brownfield Classic this Saturday and Sunday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma. It marks his first time since July 2013 competing in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader. He placed 10th during the opener that year.

“I’m excited to get back to Grays Harbor,” he said. “It rained a lot the time we were there this year so the track was different, but we had really good speed and the balance was good.”

Starks follows the Fred Brownfield Classic by tackling the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway June 24-26. He last raced in that event in 2018 when he placed eighth during the finale.

“At Dirt Cup we’ve always seemed to run into an issue at one point in the weekend,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of speed, but haven’t been able to put together a full weekend. Hopefully we can steer clear of a mess on the prelim nights and be there when it counts on Saturday.”
