Inside Line Promotions – HATTIESBURG, Miss. (June 15, 2021) – Jordon Mallett scored his third victory of the season during the opening round of the 16th annual USCS Series Speedweek.

He backed up the victory with three more top-five finishes and a sixth-place outing in four additional nights of racing en route to a second-place finish in the Speedweek standings.

Mallett kicked off what was supposed to be seven nights of racing on May 28 at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss., by advancing four positions in a heat race to finish second. He earned the pole position for the feature and settled into second place for most of the race. Mallett swapped the lead late in the race, but he noticed his car was overheating and decided to lay back. However, traffic played into his favor and enabled him to take the lead back late for the win.

“The track had some character in it, but we had a good race car and obviously starting position matters,” he said. “We were good to start the night and I was just biding my time. I actually felt the car running hot and decided I didn’t want to push it too much, but lapped traffic kind of gave me a shot and we were able to capitalize.”

Nights Two and Three served as a homecoming for Mallett as the series ventured to Arkansas for a pair of home-state events. Mallett finished second in a heat race and he advanced two positions in the feature to place sixth on May 29 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis. He followed that up by winning a heat race and finishing where he started – fifth – at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg on May 30.

“It’s always good to go back home and I love seeing family and friends at the track,” he said. “We just never could quite get in the best position to capitalize and we missed the invert both nights. It makes it tough on tracks like that when you’re not starting up front.”

Entering Night 4 at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., Mallett held a share of the points lead and he continued to show he was a contender to win the Speedweek championship as he finished where he started – second – in a heat race. He then advanced four positions in the feature to place fifth.

“It was such a tough night at Lexington as we had issues with some gauges and we were chasing the problem all night,” he said. “We were rolling pretty good in the feature, but if we could’ve concentrated a little more during the heats on racing and not mechanical issues we might have started higher up and been able to contend for a win instead.”

Rain interfered with the remainder of the Speedweek, postponing and cancelling events. Last Friday Mallett headed to Hattiesburg Speedway for the finale. He began the night by finishing where he started – second – in a heat race and then lined up seventh for the A Main. He passed two cars to finish fifth, which was his eighth top five of the season in nine starts.

While the result left him 20 points short of obtaining his second consecutive USCS Speedweek title, Mallett was happy with his team's consistency knowing how little they have competed this season.

“You know you can’t really complain too much when you are knocking down top-five finishes every time you hit the track,” he said. “We might have had the fastest car there, but the track was really narrow and tough to pass on and sometimes you have to play the cards you’re dealt.

“We won this deal last year and it’s a good way to knock out a bunch of racing in a short period of time and that was what we wanted to accomplish. I think in my eyes, we were only in position to win during the opener and the rest of the week we were a victim of pill draw. We wanted to win, but when you’re that consistent and finishing that well you can still take a lot of positives from the week.”
