Belleville, IL. (06/14/2021) Celebrating the Aztec Speedway Grand Re-Opening would find the newly launched POWRi Desert Wing Sprint Series rolling into Aztec, New Mexico for two nights of open-wheel adrenaline rushes. After outstanding on-track action in both night’s feature events, Rick Ziehl would find the fastest path on Friday as Colton Hardy would emerge victorious Saturday.
Friday Night’s action-packed event would find Colton Hardy, Josh Grady, Jake Martens, and Vance Wofford the early heat racing winners with Wofford and Rick Ziehl earning the front-row starting positions.
Securing speed in the early stages of the Friday feature at Aztec Speedway would witness Ziehl shoot to the lead, never giving up the front-running spot for the duration of contested laps. Colton Hardy would be hot on Ziehl’s heels nearly every lap, never able to capitalize on the smooth lap-times of the leader, finishing in a close second place as Josh Grady rounded out the podium finishers for the POWRi Desert Wing Sprint Series.
More exceptional open-wheel racing was in store for Aztec Speedway on Saturday Night with the returning POWRi Desert Wing Sprint Series as the previous event’s runner-up Colton Hardy would not be denied. Heat race winners included Lorne Wofford, JT Imperial, Colton Hardy, and Rick Ziehl.
Handily routing the field of competitors, Hardy would earn an inside row-one starting spot for the feature event and grab the lead early. Never giving up the top-spot Colton would hang on to pick up his first career POWRi DWSS feature win with Josh Grady earning runner-up placement. Wes Wofford would hold off the hard-charging efforts of Vance Wofford to place third leaving Vance to end the event fourth, as Lorne Wofford rounded out the top-five finishers at Aztec Speedway for the POWRi Desert Wing Sprint Series.
