Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 8, 2021) – Robbie Price matched his best finish of the 2021 season with a runner-up result at Skagit Speedway on Saturday night.
While he finished second earlier this season behind the wheel of Demo Mittry’s No. 2x sprint car at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., this was the best outing of the season for Price in his family owned No. 21p.
“It was a cool weekend and frustrating at the same time,” he said. “Nobody likes to finish second, but to be able to park our own car up front and contend with the luck we’ve had was a nice feeling.”
Price kicked off Saturday’s program by laying down a qualifying lap of 11.568 seconds, which was good enough for second quickest among 15 drivers. He then advanced one position in a heat race to finish third before he garnered the third starting position for the feature courtesy of a redraw.
Price stayed consistently in third until Lap 20 when he moved into the runner-up position. With two laps remaining, Price had an opportunity on a restart to take the lead, but a bobble forced him to settle for second.
“The track was just really fast around the top and I was just kind of biding my time for lapped traffic,” he said. “We got a red flag there that kind of messed up that plan, but we had a shot there at the end on a green-white-checkered finish and I thought we were going to get the win. I kind of gave it away and just didn’t hit my marks. I guess we were just destined for second.”
Next up for Price will a return to 360ci sprint car competition at Skagit Speedway this Saturday. This will be the fourth consecutive visit to the facility for Price as he is gearing up for the 49th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup that will occur with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour June 24-26.
Price became the youngest winner in the history of the event in 2019 as he bested the ASCS National Tour regulars and local stars to claim the $15,000 top prize. With last year’s event getting cancelled due to COVID-19, Price will enter the crown jewel event as the defending champion.
“I was the last person to win that race and I really want to be the next person to win it as well,” he said. “We had planned to do a lot more racing, but I figure we just need to focus and get our ducks in a row and see if we can come out here in a couple of weeks and win again.
“We’ve had all sorts of gremlins this season with our program and there is no better time than now to kind of get those sorted out. I know I can race these cars and I know we have good equipment. I’m looking forward to putting everything together and it’s only a matter of time before luck starts turning our way.”
