Bryan Hulbert – SAPULPA, Okla. (June 7, 2021) Taking in two of the three nights of racing with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products, Blake Hahn ended the weekend with a $2,222 payday at the Mickey Walker Classic presented by Terry Mattox Promotions at Creek County Speedway.
The win is Blake’s third on the season and includes 11 top-five and 14 top-ten finishes in 21 events contested. With the ASCS Sooner Region, Blake is now 13th on the all-time win list with six victories.
“This win, and really this race, was an emotional one for everyone. Mickey was a good person and a good racer. It means a lot to win a race named in his honor,” stated Hahn.
Using the weekend to shake down a new car, Hahn started his run Friday night at Humboldt Speedway. Crossing fourth after a multi-lap battle with Ryan Timms and Kyle Bellm, the team retreated to the shop on Saturday to evaluate the car.
“We were good on Friday, just needed a little more work on the car. We wanted to go to Lawton, but with the new car and the run coming up, we really needed to get back and go over everything to make sure everything was correct, and I feel like that showed on Sunday. We didn’t have to do much when we were doing maintenance on Saturday, but it was enough that it further balanced the car.”
Racing into the lead on Lap 2 during Sunday’s 27 lap feature event, Hahn had stretched his lead to nearly three seconds before traffic in the closing laps brought Ryan Timms to under a second of the No. 52.
“I knew someone was going to be coming. The track was technical, so getting around the slower cars took more time than I wanted. I felt like we had the car to beat, as long as I kept myself out of trouble.”
Taking the next weekend off to maintain the truck, trailer, and stock up for the Northwest swing, the team will be in action at the Fred Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. on Saturday, June 19, and Sunday, June 20.
The 2021 season is Blake Hahn's 19th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars. For continued updates on Blake Hahn Racing, log onto http://www.blakehahnracing.com.
