Kaeding Scores Second at Santa Maria

PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at the Santa Maria Speedway, Bud Kaeding raced his BZE/Maxim No.29 to the lead late in the feature, before hooking up in an exciting battle with Danny Sheridan with four laps to go and falling back to the second position at the finish line.

With 27 cars signed into the USAC West Coast 360’s event, Kaeding was able to rip off the eigth quickest lap of the night, putting him in the fourth heat race.

Heat race action saw the Campbell, CA driver move from his fourth row starting spot to a third place finish transferring him directly into the 30-lap feature event.

The pill draw invert was very kind to Bud, as he was lined up on the front row with Justyne Hamblin.

As the feature event got underway, Kaeding fell into the second spot as he hounded Hamblin, and attempted to fend off a charging Wes Gutierrez, as the duo battled for the second spot.

After falling back to third, Bud was able to get around Hamblin for second on the 13th lap, as he set his sights on Gutierrez on the fast, hooked up, quarter mile.

As the duo excited the crowd with their battle for the lead, Bud was able to slip past the leader, and assume the point on the 24th circuit.
Bud would then begin to pull away from the field, until a caution waved on the 26th circuit, putting a hard charging Danny Sheridan on his rear bumper.

On the ensuing restart, Sheridan was able to get around the BZE No.29, with just four laps to go.
Bud would do all he could with Sheridan, but at the stripe he settled for the second position.

“We had a really good car tonight, and I have to thank all my guys for their hard work tonight,” explained Bud. “We had a car to win tonight, but Danny (Sheridan) was just a little better tonight at got passed us on that last restart.”

ON TAP: Bud will be back in action on Saturday night at the Eldora Speedway for the 4 Crown event where he will be competing in both the USAC Sprint Car and USAC Silver Crown portion of the event.
