Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 25, 2021) – Alex Hill rallied to score her career-best finish with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Friday night at Tri-City Speedway, where Hill crossed the finish line eighth after being forced to restart at the rear of the field with 15 laps to go in the 25-lap race.
“We had a really good car at Tri-City,” said Hill, who started ninth in the night’s main event at the oval in Granite City, Ill. “I was in 10th when we had a red flag. When we refired, the motor stuttered a little so I pulled it out of gear and then back into gear and had them push me off again. Since I started a second time I had to restart the race at the rear. But we were still able to come back and finish eighth, so I was pretty happy about that.”
Hill’s night started off with a solid heat race run.
“I started third in my heat race, but dropped back to fifth,” she said. “Then I was able to get by J.J. Hickle and Carson McCarl to finish third.”
When rain washed out the ASCS National Tour race scheduled at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., the following night, the Hill’s Racing Team driver headed to Eldora Speedway to compete with the NRA Sprint Invaders. Her evening started out strong with a heat race victory.
“I got a good start and was able to take the lead right away and it was just hammer-down after that,” said Hill, who started on the pole.
She lined up fourth in the feature and showed speed throughout the race until disaster struck in the closing laps.
“We were running third early in the race, then lost a couple of spots,” she said. “I think we were running around sixth with four laps to go when I got fed a right rear and it sent me straight into the wall. I’m not sure what happened. I think she was trying to slide me and it didn’t clear, but I don’t really know.”
It was the second hard crash for Hill in as many weekends. While her car was destroyed, she was only frustrated and sore.
“It was a hard hit for sure, but I’m glad my head didn’t hurt this time,” she said. “I was just really sore, especially where my belts were. It was a frustrating end to what had been a good night. I really enjoy racing at Eldora.”
Hill is looking forward to racing a doubleheader this Saturday and Sunday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., during the Sprint and Midget Nationals presented by The Drivers Project. It’s a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event that has a special connection to her.
“My crew chief, Daryl Turford, and his dad, Pete, are co-promoting the race at Lake Ozark this weekend, so I’m especially looking forward to supporting them and The Drivers Project,” she said. “I also enjoy racing at Lake Ozark. Hopefully, it will be a good weekend for all of us.”
