Ramey Looking to Rebound This Weekend at Lake Ozark Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – GRANITE CITY, Ill. (May 25, 2021) – Gunner Ramey’s first appearance at Tri-City Speedway didn’t pan out as he would have liked last Friday when the dirt oval hosted the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Ramey started first in his heat race, but a dead right front torsion bar hindered the car’s performance and made it hard to drive. The 18-year-old dropped two positions to finish third.

The Terry Doogs Racing crew replaced the torsion bar before heading out to the feature, in which Ramey started 13th.

Ramey lost a few positions at the start of the 25-lap main event, but as the laps clicked off he began to pass cars for position.

“I felt like it took us a little while to get going, but once we got a couple laps in we were really fast,” he said.

Ramey had nearly made it to the top 10 and was gaining when his right rear tire hit the frontstretch wall with approximately 10 laps remaining, causing Ramey to flip and end his night prematurely. The driver of the No. 21 climbed out of his car under his own power, thankfully uninjured in the single-car incident.

“It was an unfortunate situation because I knew we had a top 10 in sight for sure,” he said.

Ramey and his team elected to stay home Saturday to repair the damage and get the car prepared for Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., this weekend. He is looking to have a strong rebound when he competes with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Saturday and Sunday night during the Sprint and Midget Nationals presented by The Drivers Project.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the seat and building on the momentum we had before the incident,” he said. “We had a fast car and were able to make passes, and there’s no reason that it won’t continue this weekend.”
