(Bill W) September 12, 2011 – The FVP #21 team and Brian Brown headed to Nebraska last weekend to tackle the ASCS-Midwest series. With Valley Speedway having rained out on Friday, the team headed for McCool Junction and Eagle and came away with a pair of top five finishes. This weekend, they are anxiously anticipating two nights at the I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska, where Brian has won three times this year alone.
The Junction Motor Speedway saw Brian start sixth in his heat race on Saturday. “We always look forward to McCool,” he says. “They always treat us well, and there are a lot of great fans in that area. We drew a pretty tough heat. I knew we needed third to probably make the redraw. We got to third, but I let Jason (Johnson) slip back by me. The car was just a little tight in the heat. I’m a firm believer you win these ASCS races in the heat a lot of nights, and we couldn’t get to the redraw.”
The fourth place finish set Brian up outside row six in the feature. “I felt that everyone we came to, we could pass,” he says. “We had a really good car. I’m not sure that I could have won, but I would have liked the opportunity. We had a caution on the fourth lap, and the last 21 went non-stop.”
The charge ended with a solid fourth place finish. “When I got to fourth, I was able to catch Jason,” says Brian. “He was gaining on (winner Gregg) Bakker, so I felt really good about the car. You’ve got to be able to start in the first three or four rows in these races, and you can’t spot these drivers eleven positions.”
It was on to Eagle Raceway on Sunday for the Nebraska Cup. “We drew well outside the front row beside Jack (Dover),” says Brian of his heat. “We got to the lead, but I gave him an opportunity to get by me in turn one and he took advantage. We were opposite of the night before where we were tight. On Sunday, we were a little free in the heat.”
Starting eleventh, Brian would charge to a fifth place finish on the 1/3-mile banked oval. “We had a pretty good run,” he says. “I passed Jack for fourth at one time, and passed Boston at one time too. I don’t think we were good enough to win, but we had another good car. At Eagle, it’s like a win for me to run in the top five.”
This weekend, a driver who sweeps Friday and Saturday shows at I-80 Speedway could earn $7,000, and that’s what the FVP team is aiming for. “I-80 can’t come quick enough for us,” says Brian. “The track itself suits us better than even Knoxville right now. It’s always really good racing, and just suits our style. I feel a lot of confidence going in. I feel like we should win both nights barring anything bad happening. I’m not guaranteeing it, but I feel that confident about our team at that place.”
In addition, there will be representation from FVP. “We’re going to have around 140 customers there each night,” says Brian. “We also have a lot of great fans up there…probably as many as anywhere.”

Brian's Q&A
Brady Henning asks: This is the week of the Spencer Outlaw show. You had your first race as an owner/driver there a few years ago and did well. Is that race still special to you?
Brian answers: It seems like forever ago, but it still something that I look back at and I will always cherish it. We didn’t win the race, but we were in contention. We were a makeshift team at that point. It hurts a bit to miss that show this week, but we’re going where we have been successful, can make some money, and where we can get some good exposure for FVP and race in front of its customers. If we had destroyed the car at Spencer that year, there may not be a Brian Brown Racing now, so yes, it is still very special.
