Inside Line Promotions – BULLS GAP, Tenn. (May 19, 2021) – Scott Bogucki faced a new challenge last Saturday during his debut at Volunteer Speedway.
“It was the most banked track I’ve ever raced on,” he said. “I wasn’t as good as I wish I could have been. I just couldn’t see was my biggest problem because of the wingboard. I like to look around. As far as hitting my marks, I look where I need to be for some time before getting there and I wasn’t able to do that there.”
The high-banked oval welcomed the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour for the first time and the night was a work in progress for Bogucki and his SawBlade.com sponsored team.
It began with a run from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. Bogucki followed with a third-place outing in a qualifier. That started him on the inside of the fourth row for the A Main.
Bogucki capitalized on a quick move during the start of the race to propel himself into fifth place. He remained in that position for the duration of the feature, ending up with his fourth top five of the season in six races with the series.
Bogucki ranks sixth in the championship standings – only 12 points out of the top five – heading into a doubleheader this weekend. The ASCS National Tour ventures to Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., on Friday before heading to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday.
“I’ve never been to Tri-City so I’m looking forward to racing there,” he said. “I haven’t had a great relationship with I-30. We’ve struggled to get out of there without any trouble in a lot of past races. We have some notes so hopefully that will set us up for a successful night.”
Bogucki recorded a career-best ninth-place finish during his most recent race there – the Short Track Nationals last October.
