Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (May 19, 2021) – Elliot Amdahl showed speed last weekend throughout a three-race weekend at three different tracks with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association.
“We had points in our weekend where things went well, but we also had some issues that kept us from having better finishes,” said Amdahl, who made his 410ci sprint car debut one week prior at Huset’s Speedway. “I guess our weekend was both a confidence booster and a reality check at the same time.”
Amdahl’s weekend got off to a solid start on Friday during the Bull Haulers Brawl presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking hosted by Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn. He timed in 14th quickest out of 30 drivers and finished second in his heat race. Amdahl lined up 11th in the night’s main event.
“The first part of the feature went pretty well,” he said. “We were able to move up to ninth in the first few laps. Then instead of the track getting slick like it usually does, it got tackier as the race went on. My car got to bicycling pretty hard and I figured I had a shock or bar go bad so I pulled in.”
Amdahl was credited with a 19th-place result.
Despite a slower qualifying time at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D., on Saturday night, Amdahl was able to advance from his sixth place starting spot in his heat race to finish fourth and qualify for the A Main for the second consecutive night.
“We had thought about making changes to the car for I-90 after what happened at Jackson, but then decided not to, thinking that it was probably due to track conditions,” he said. “But the car started bicycling again right away in the A Main and I had to pull in for the second night in a row.”
The DNF resulted in a 19th-place run for the second consecutive night.
Wholesale changes were made to the car the following day in preparation for a night of racing at Huset’s Speedway.
“On Sunday we changed all four bars and all four shocks,” said Amdahl, who timed in eighth quickest out of 33 cars at Huset’s Speedway. “It felt like a different car that night. It felt great.
“We started outside the front row in our heat race and were running well in second. But then I got a little high coming out of turn two and when I went into turn three the right rear kind of stuck into the cushion and got into the wall. While I was trying to correct it, I got into Jack Dover and flipped, and that ended our night.
“It was a frustrating end to a long weekend. We had a really good car at Huset’s and if I could’ve just held my spot in the heat race we would’ve had a pretty good starting spot in the feature.”
Amdahl will compete with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series this Friday night at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, in the Ziebarth No. 81 before returning to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday in his 410 sprint car.
