Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (May 18, 2021) – Robbie Price wheeled his family owned No. 21p to a 12th- place result during 410ci winged sprint car competition Saturday night.
It was a strong finish to the Peter Murphy Classic weekend, which began on Friday with a 23rd-place run at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., before the top 15 at Thunderbowl Raceway.
“It wasn’t a perfect weekend by any means, but it wasn't terrible either,” Price said.” We really haven't run the 410 in a while, so it was a nice chance to get out and learn about that side of our program and make some competitive laps.”
Price kicked off Friday’s program by finishing ninth and second in a pair of heat races. As a result he earned the 20th starting spot in the A Main. Buried deep in the field and with another night of racing ahead of him, Price pulled off the track after a handful of laps and was credited with finishing 23rd.
“I hurt us making some mistakes in the heat races and I was really kicking myself afterwards,” he said. “The track took rubber early in the feature and we pulled off to secure equipment as we were not really moving forward.”
Price ventured to Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday and qualified 16th quickest in time trials with a lap of 14.766 seconds. He finished eighth in a heat race to secure the 21st starting position in the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series feature. Price made headway in the main event, picking up nine positions to finish 12th for his fifth top 15 of the season.
“We timed in halfway decent and we started off all right, but I was a little too hesitant behind the wheel early in the feature,” he said. “Not until about 15 laps to go did I really get up on the wheel and start moving and by then it was just too late. Overall, we rolled the car into the trailer in one piece and that’s all you can ask for.”
Next up for Price will be a return to 360 sprint car competition at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., this Saturday. With Skagit Speedway serving as his home track for multiple years and having a few wins under his belt at the oval, Price is hoping the trip will pay off with success.
“Skagit is pretty much my home track and I’m pretty comfortable there so I’m looking forward to getting back there,” he said. “We have not raced a whole lot this season and I think a trip home of sorts will do us well in getting this season on track.”
