Ramey Hampered by Rain Throughout Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 18, 2021) – Rain once again stole the headlines last weekend for 18-year-old Gunner Ramey.

The Terry Doogs Racing driver originally intended to race at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., on Saturday night, but when track officials called off the race because of wet weather he shifted his focus to compete at Knoxville Raceway.

Preliminary action for the night had just wrapped up and features were about to begin when Mother Nature once again decided to interfere. Officials postponed the feature events to a different day, which is to be determined.

“It definitely stinks to be in the car and run all the preliminary events only to have to end the night before we could run the feature,” Ramey said. “It just feels incomplete without running the race we all came there for.”

The driver of the No. 21 machine posted the 16th quickest time of the 23 drivers to qualify with a lap of 16.491 seconds, setting him up to start first in his heat race. Ramey dropped two positions to finish third.

That’s as far through the night’s program as Ramey got before the race was called off for rain. He will start 15th in the A Main when the race resumes.

Ramey noted that postponing the feature event will not change his approach when officials publish the makeup date. He mentioned it will most likely land on a date with an already-scheduled night of racing, meaning Ramey will run two features throughout the night.

“Really, the only thing that changes for us is the need for more tires and more fuel than we would normally use,” he said.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Ramey hopes for clear skies at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., on Friday night when he tackles the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and ASCS Warrior Region sanctioned event. It will mark Ramey’s first appearance at the 3/8-mile track.

Saturday night will be spent at Knoxville Raceway in the 360 sprint car class.
