Williamson Highlights Weekend at Longdale Speedway With Podium Performance

Inside Line Promotions – LONGDALE, Okla. (May 17, 2021) – Garet Williamson tied his season-best result on Friday during the Walleye Rodeo Roundup opener at Longdale Speedway.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver finished third to kick off the ASCS Sooner Region doubleheader. Williamson followed that up with an eighth-place showing on Saturday, marking his second time of registering back-to-back top 10s this season.

“It was a smooth weekend,” he said. “We’ve had a rough year and haven’t got to run too many A Mains this year. It was nice to run two complete nights with nothing bad happening. To get two top 10s and a podium was a confidence booster.”

Williamson finished where he started – second – in a heat race on Friday. That earned a spot into the feature redraw and he drew the No. 7, giving him the seventh starting spot in the A Main.

“There was a wreck early in the race that took out a couple of cars,” he said. “We got up to third and the rubber came around Lap 5. We pretty much rode around the rest of the race.”

The third-place finish was Williamson’s first podium since a third-place run on Feb. 20.

The team returned to the oval on Saturday.

“We started fifth in our heat race and were passing for third when the guy blew a tire,” he said. “We had to stop to avoid crashing and go to the back with one lap to go.”

Williamson finished fifth, which lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

“The track was a lot more racy than Friday,” he said. “I think if we went to the top in both corners we could have ran in the top five. I didn’t get up there until it was super late. We gained a lot of speed, but at that point it was too late. I didn’t think the top would come in in turns three and four like it did. I didn’t try it like I should have. But we moved forward, got a top 10 and didn’t have any trouble so it was good.”

Williamson hustled from 14th to eighth, which was tied for the second-most positions gained.
