Amdahl Posts Top-10 Finish in 410 Sprint Car Debut at Huset’s Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (May 11, 2021) – Elliot Amdahl scored a top-10 result in his 410ci sprint car debut Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway.

“Our night went really well,” he said. “It really couldn’t have gone much better for our first 410 race. I was hoping for a top-10 finish, but I wasn’t really expecting it. Our motor ran great and I was surprised how close we were with our setup.”

Amdahl started 12th in the night’s main event. After dropping back a few positions early in the race he was able to move forward as he became more familiar with the high-powered machine, eventually advancing to an eighth-place finish.

“I wasn’t expecting to go forward and to pass the cars that I did in my first 410 feature,” he said. “I fell back a bit early and just tried to get comfortable with the car. Then I rolled the wing back a bit and stuck it on the top and started passing some guys. I may have psyched myself out a bit before the race. It actually wasn’t as difficult as I expected.”

Amdahl’s evening got off to a solid start when he qualified 12th quickest out of 24 drivers.

“I was really happy with our qualifying since I only had a few laps in a 410 before I went out,” he said. “I feel like I can improve my qualifying quite a bit as the year goes on.”

His qualifying time placed Amdahl on the pole for his heat race, a starting position he had not anticipated.

“I wasn’t expecting to start on the pole in my first 410 race,” he said after finishing fifth. “It was a bit nerve-wracking. How hard do you gas it on the start? How hard do you drive it into the turns? Will the car be tight or loose? I dropped back a bit and it took me a few laps to get comfortable. After that, it was a lot better.”

That showed in the main event.

Amdahl also earned a top 10 the previous weekend as he recorded a seventh-place showing in the 305 sprint car feature at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on April 30.

“We don’t have a lot of laps at Rocky so finishing seventh wasn’t too bad, although we usually expect to do better with our 305,” he said. “Our car was a little loose and it’s a tricky place. It’s a stock car track and has a lot of different transitions that can make it challenging.”

Amdahl plans to increase his 410 experience three-fold this weekend when he competes with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., on Friday; at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D., on Saturday; and at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.

“We’re just mainly looking to get more laps in,” he said. “Jackson will probably be the most interesting because that’s where we’ll carry the most speed with the big motor. That might take a little getting used to. But I have a lot of laps at Jackson so that should help. It’s the same at I-90. We have about four or five wins at each track in the 305. We’re hoping our experience at those tracks will benefit us.”
