Inside Line Promotions – ODESSA, Mo. (May 4, 2021) – Jason Sides is heading to a familiar high-banked oval this weekend when Eldora Speedway hosts the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
The track near Rossburg, Ohio, features the #LetsRaceTwo event on Friday and Saturday, marking the first World of Outlaws races there since September 2019.
“We didn’t get to race there last year because of the pandemic,” Sides said. “When you get back to somewhere you’re familiar with you know what to expect. You know how to set the car up and what to do. It makes things a little more simple. A nice goal would be top 10 both nights this weekend.”
Sides highlighted the first World of Outlaws tripleheader of the season last weekend with a 15th-place result at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., on Thursday. He qualified 20th quickest and advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race before gaining a pair of positions in the A Main.
“Everything happens so fast there,” he said. “We made it through the heat race even though I hit the wall a few times trying to get by a guy on the outside. In the feature I made a decision to not get tore up. There were some holes in the track. If you ran the top it’d pitch the front end around and potentially put you in the wall. I stayed down low and made whatever progress I could on the bottom.”
Sides then ventured to I-70 Motorsports Park for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown, which began on Friday. He qualified 12th quickest, placed fifth in a heat race and ended 18th in the main event.
“The track was fast,” he said. “It was their first race and really the first time they got on the track with water trucks. They got it a little bit wet the first night so it was narrow. It’s so fast that it was hard to pass. I think it was a little easier for the guys ripping around the top to get by than some on the bottom.
“The track had a few rocks in it. One hit the left front brake line and all the fluid leaked out so I didn’t have much brakes. They started fading toward the end because there wasn’t any fluid in it. We probably use brakes more than people think on the big, fast tracks. You run it wide open, but instead of lifting to turn in you use your brakes to do that. When you go to the floor on the brake pedal it pushes up and then you have to lift and end up pushing out of the lane, too.”
Mechanical woes ended the night early on Saturday as Sides was running in a transfer position in the Last Chance Showdown.
